A prequel to the bestselling classic The Mouse That Roared, the story is set in 1450 in the Duchy of Grand Fenwick, ruled by Sir Roger and protected by skilled longbowmen. When an Irish knight arrives with news of a French attack and a new weapon called the cannon, Sir Roger and the knight must overcome their differences to defend the duchy. Sir Roger’s daughter, Lady Matilda, becomes infatuated with the Irishman, complicating their alliance. The novel was adapted into a 1959 film starring Peter Sellers. It is the fifth book in the Grand Fenwick series, which includes The Mouse That Roared as the first.
