Cardassia Prime is home to a proud people who built alliances and expanded their empire, often at the expense of others. For years, dissent was crushed. When the Dominion betrayed them, the United Federation of Planets ended the violence and now helps rebuild the planet. To mark their alliance, the Castellan of the Cardassian Union welcomes the Federation president. The U.S.S. Enterprise E is assigned to carry the Cardassian ambassador back to the Federation. Ambassador Elim Garak works with Captain Jean-Luc Picard to organize a diplomatic event celebrating the departure of Starfleet personnel. However, some seek to restore Cardassia's former power and are determined to stop the peace.
