After the original space station was destroyed by a rogue faction of the Typhon Pact, Miles O'Brien and Nog led the Starfleet Corps of Engineers in building a larger and more advanced starbase in the Bajoran system. As the new Deep Space 9 prepares for its dedication, Captain Ro Laren hosts a ceremony with notable guests, including allies and rivals such as Klingon Chancellor Martok, Ferengi Grand Nagus Rom, the Romulan praetor, and the Gorn imperator. The station is set to open to the Bajor Sector and beyond, but a hidden faction has begun a dangerous plan that could have major consequences. Meanwhile, Kira Nerys remains missing after the Bajoran wormhole collapsed two years prior, with no signs of her or the Celestial Temple.
