Forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan digs for a corpse in Montreal where Sister Elisabeth Nicolet, dead over a century and a candidate for sainthood, should be lying in her grave, finding a strange small coffin buried within a decaying church. She is also drawn into investigating scorched, twisted bodies from a burning chalet, working alongside Homicide Detective Andrew Ryan, with whom she has a combustive history, while worrying about her sister Harry's search for spiritual awakening.
