Peter Grant is a magician's apprentice working under his superior, Nightingale, who is teaching him the ways of magic. Despite Nightingale's guidance, Peter admits he still doesn't know much. A murder in Crawley suggests a new killer is at large, but Peter is soon distracted by strange events in Elephant and Castle. His life as a magician constable is anything but ordinary. The story is part of an English novel by Ben Aaronovitch.
