About “The Black Spectacles”
The Problem of the Green Capsule is a 1939 mystery novel by John Dickson Carr featuring Dr. Gideon Fell. The story begins with Marcus Chesney, who tests his friends' observational skills by staging a brief performance. Despite being recorded and watched under bright light, none of the witnesses can accurately describe what they saw. This leads to confusion over details such as the identity of a figure in black spectacles and an object described as a pen, pencil, or blowpipe dart. Later, Chesney is murdered, and his niece, Marjorie Wills, is suspected of the crime. However, the evidence is weak, and she has a solid alibi. Dr. Fell, called in by Inspector Elliot, solves the mystery, particularly uncovering the truth about the black spectacles, marking one of his greatest detective achievements.
