About “Federalist No. 17”
Federalist No. 17 is an essay written by Alexander Hamilton as part of The Federalist Papers. It was published on December 5, 1787, in The Independent Journal under the pseudonym Publius, which was used for all Federalist Papers. The essay focuses on the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation in effectively governing the United States. It is the third of six essays that examine this issue.
