About “Federalist No. 14”
Federalist No. 14 is an essay written by James Madison titled "Objections to the Proposed Constitution From Extent of Territory Answered." It is the fourteenth of The Federalist Papers, a series of essays supporting the proposed United States Constitution. Published on November 30, 1787, in The New York Packet, it was written under the pseudonym Publius, the same name used for all the Federalist Papers. The essay responds to concerns raised by Anti-Federalists about governing a large country effectively. Madison had previously discussed this issue in Federalist No. 10 and expands on it in this paper. He argues that the proposed Constitution provides a solution to the challenges of governing a vast territory. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
