About “The Greek coffin mystery”
After the death of a famous Greek art dealer, his attorney discovers the will is missing and contacts the district attorney. Inspector Richard Queen and his son, amateur detective Ellery, are called in. Ellery deduces the will is in the coffin, but it contains a strangled ex-convict instead. Early in the story, Ellery makes a public deduction about teacups, which turns out to be wrong, leading him to keep his thoughts private. Clues include color-blindness, a burned will, two versions of a Leonardo painting, a thousand-dollar bill, and a typing error. Ellery and his father set a trap that reveals the murderer, a person whose guilt was likely unexpected by readers.
