About “The Burglar in the Rye”

Bernie Rhodenbarr is drawn into a complex mystery when he is asked by Alice Cottrell to return letters from the reclusive writer Gulliver Fairborn to their author. He breaks into the Paddington Hotel to retrieve the letters but finds Anthea Landau dead. The police arrest him after he escapes through a fire escape and takes some ruby jewelry. When he is bailed out, his bookstore is visited by people looking for the letters he doesn't have. He soon learns the rubies he took were stolen the night before. To clear his name and fix the situation, Bernie must solve a murder, track down a rival thief, recover the missing letters, and find the rubies' owner, all while protecting Gulliver Fairborn without getting caught.
