William Ford Gibson, born 1948, is an American-Canadian speculative fiction writer called the "noir prophet" of cyberpunk. He coined the term "cyberspace" in his short story "Burning Chrome" and popularized the concept in his debut novel Neuromancer (1984). He is credited with predicting the rise of reality television and establishing conceptual foundations for virtual environments such as video games and the Web.
