Gregory Keyes, born John Gregory Keyes on April 11, 1963, in Meridian, Mississippi, grew up in a large, diverse, storytelling family. He earned degrees in anthropology from Mississippi State University and the University of Georgia before becoming a full-time writer. Keyes is an American author of science fiction and fantasy, known for writing under the names J. Gregory Keyes and Greg Keyes. He is recognized for his tetralogy The Age of Unreason, a steampunk/alchemical novel featuring historical figures such as Benjamin Franklin and Isaac Newton. He also wrote the Babylon 5 Psi Corps trilogy, which explores the history of the Psi Corps and the life of member Alfred Bester. In 2003, he began the Kingdoms of Thorn and Bone series, consisting of The Briar King, The Charnel Prince, The Blood Knight, and The Born Queen. In 2009, he was commissioned to write two novels based on the video game The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, with The Infernal City published in 2009 and Lord of Souls in 2011.
