There is no place to channel the flood of refugees fleeing the Yuuzhan Vong except the overcrowded planet Duro, which has been poisoned by centuries of technological excess. A deal is made: in exchange for a new home, the refugees will help restore the planet's health under the supervision of Leia Organa Solo. Han Solo, his son Jacen, and the Ryn Droma arrive to maintain peace, unaware that Leia is already on Duro and that Luke, Mara, and Anakin are searching for a missing Jedi apprentice. Meanwhile, the Yuuzhan Vong have selected Duro as their next target in a coreward attack. As tensions rise between the Duros and the New Republic, Jacen must decide when the use of power becomes aggression, with a loved one's life at stake and the galaxy's future hanging in the balance.
