Doris May Lessing CH (née Tayler; born 22 October 1919, died 2013) was a British novelist, poet, playwright, librettist, biographer, and short story writer, author of The Grass is Singing and The Golden Notebook. In 2007 she won the Nobel Prize in Literature, described by the Swedish Academy as an epicist of the female experience, becoming the eleventh woman and oldest person to win it.
