Andrzej Sapkowski (born 21 June 1948) is a Polish fantasy writer known for his series The Witcher, which follows the monster-hunter Geralt of Rivia. His work has been adapted into video games, television, stage productions, and comic books, and has been translated into 37 languages. Sapkowski is considered the second most-translated Polish science fiction and fantasy writer after Stanisław Lem. He has written multiple novels and short story collections, selling over 30 million copies worldwide. His works often incorporate elements of Slavic mythology. He has received the Zajdel Award five times, as well as the David Gemmell Award, the World Fantasy Life Achievement Award, and the Gloria Artis Medal for Merit to Culture.
