A 2004 alternate history novel by Harry Turtledove, part of the WorldWar and Colonization series. After an alien race called the Race invades Earth during the wars of the twentieth century, humans develop nuclear technology and eventually spaceflight. A group of humans travels to the Race's home planet, becoming strangers on a world where their presence risks provoking the aliens toward annihilating Earth.
