In the wilderness beyond the owl world of Ga'Hoole, a wolf mother hides her newborn pup, who is healthy except for a twisted paw. Because her pack's rigid rules forbid weakness, she must abandon the pup on an icy riverbank to die, but the pup, Faolan, survives, growing into a wolf who changes the wolves of the Beyond forever.
