About “The Betrothed”
Set at the time of the Third Crusade (1189-92), this is the first of Scott's Tales of the Crusaders, focused on those who stayed at home while set in the Welsh Marches. Eveline, daughter of a Norman warrior, is betrothed to a man required by the Church to take the Cross, leaving her a 'prize' whose fate is determined by men.
