About “From the Earth to the Moon”
From the Earth to the Moon: A Direct Route in 97 Hours, 20 Minutes is a 1865 novel by Jules Verne. It follows the Baltimore Gun Club, a group of post–American Civil War weapons enthusiasts, who build a large space gun called the Columbiad. They launch three individuals—a club president, a rival from Philadelphia, and a French poet—in a projectile aimed at the Moon. A sequel, Around the Moon, was published five years later. The novel has been translated into English in two unabridged versions, one by Walter James Miller in 1978 and another by Frederick Paul Walter in 2010. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
