About “Tokyo year zero”
In 1946, one year after the Japanese surrender, women are dying in Tokyo. Detective Minami, a disillusioned officer with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police, investigates a serial killer known as the Japanese Bluebeard. A former Imperial soldier, the killer is suspected of raping and murdering at least ten women during the chaos of post-war Tokyo. Minami is tormented by his own memories of wartime atrocities, which he cannot reconcile or forgive. The novel, set in a nation struggling to recover, presents a bleak and powerful portrayal of a society in turmoil. Tokyo Year Zero is a crime story that explores the dark undercurrents of a country in transition. The 2007 novel by David Peace offers a stark and original look at history through the lens of a relentless investigation.
