The Twelve Kingdoms: The Vast Spread of the Seas is a 1994 novel by Japanese author Fuyumi Ono, part of The Twelve Kingdoms, a fantasy novel series illustrated by Akihiro Yamada. The first entry, The Twelve Kingdoms: Sea of Shadow, was published by Kodansha in Japan in 1992; the last Kodansha volume appeared in 2001, and the series resumed under Shinchosha's Shinchō Bunko line in 2012.
