A strange message, 'Blue bells will be singing horses,' attached to the leg of a wounded homing pigeon, involves Nancy Drew in a dangerous mission to find and free an elderly woman held prisoner in a mansion. Her friend Helen also asks her to solve a second mystery involving a sinister wheel of blue fire near Sylvan Lake, and Nancy discovers the two mysteries are connected.
