The arrival of alien intelligences changed global affairs, including in the United Kingdom. After the elder god Nyarlathotep became Prime Minister, Mhari Murphy, now in the House of Lords and leading the Lords Select Committee on Sanguinary Affairs, is asked to lead a team of former Laundry agents. Their mission takes them to the United States, where a massive storm covers the Midwest and the President has vanished. People have forgotten the existence of the executive branch, and the government is under control of the Black Chamber. The Pentagon and NASA are focused on summoning Cthulhu, while the Secret Service fights to keep the President aware of his identity and avoid capture by vampiric forces.
