The Kent Family Chronicles is a series of eight novels written by John Jakes for Lyle Engel of Book Creations, Inc. The series was created to mark the 200th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. All novels in the series were best sellers, with each selling at least 3.5 million copies. In 1975, Jakes achieved a record by having three books—The Rebels, The Seekers, and The Furies—on the New York Times best-seller list at the same time.
