About “The Book of Lost Tales [2/2]”

The book continues from "Part I" and follows Eriol, who arrives at the 'Cottage of Lost Play,' a home owned by Lindo and Vairë. While staying there, he listens to stories told by the family. The first story he hears is "The Tale of Tinúviel," which recounts the love between Beren, a human, and Lúthien Tinúviel, an elf. Beren completes a dangerous task to win her hand in marriage but loses his hand in the process. After their marriage, Beren dies, and Lúthien dies of heartbreak. They are later given a second chance at life. Eriol then tells the story of "Turambar and the Foalókë," about a warrior cursed to watch his family suffer. His son, Túrin, faces betrayal and a curse after a battle with a dragon. He meets his sister, now unaware of their relationship, and they marry. After defeating the dragon, his sister regains her memory and jumps off a cliff. Túrin kills himself, and their mother wanders into the woods. The father is later freed and kills those who betrayed his son before searching for his wife. The story ends with the family reunited among the spirits.
