Young Twig lives in the Deepwoods among the Woodtrolls, but he is not one of them. Determined to find where he belongs, he leaves the Deepwoods and enters a dangerous world beyond. Along the way, he meets the Caterbird, a wise guardian, the Slaughterers, a peaceful people who butcher animals, and the Rotsucker, a vicious creature. He also fears the Gloamglozer, a terrifying presence in The Edge. Twig continues his journey until he discovers his true origin—not among the trees, but in the skies. This 1998 novel by Paul Stewart follows Twig's quest for identity.
