About “The Painted Man”
The Painted Man is the debut fantasy novel by Peter V. Brett and the first book in the Demon trilogy. It is set in a world where humans have surrendered the night to corelings, demons that emerge at dusk and wreak havoc until sunrise. Survivors rely on magical wards to protect themselves. Over time, villages have become isolated, and no force seems able to stop the corelings or unite the scattered people. The story follows three children—Arlen, Leesha, and Rojer—each shaped by hardship and a desire to understand the world beyond their fears. All three are determined to seek the truth, even if it means leaving the safety of their wards. The novel was named one of the top ten fantasy books of 2008 by amazon.co.uk.
