About “The raven in the foregate”

In 1141, Abbot Radulfus returns from London with a priest to fill the vacancy at Holy Cross in the Foregate. The priest is intelligent and disciplined but lacks humility and connection with the people. He is found drowned in the mill-pond, leading to suspicion, especially regarding a young man who traveled with him and was sent to work in Brother Cadfael's garden. The young man shows little priestly talent and gains the attention of a beautiful and strong-willed girl. Brother Cadfael, once worldly but now devoted, must untangle the complex web of events to determine who is guilty.
