A body is found in a barrel of asphalt near Lowes Motor Speedway outside Charlotte as 200,000 fans arrive for race week. A NASCAR crew member tells forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan that his sister, Cyndi Gamble, and her boyfriend Cale Lovette, who kept company with right-wing extremists, disappeared twelve years earlier; Tempe must determine whose body has been found and consider a possible FBI cover-up after a secret substance turns up with the remains.
