About “The Bride of Lammermoor”
The Bride of Lammermoor is a historical novel by Sir Walter Scott, published in 1819 as part of the Waverley series. Set in the Lammermuir Hills of south-east Scotland, the story takes place around the time of the Act of Union in 1707. It follows the tragic love between Lucy Ashton and Edgar Ravenswood, an enemy of her family. Scott claimed the plot was based on a real event. The novel was published alongside A Legend of Montrose as the third volume of Tales of My Landlord. The story later inspired Donizetti's 1835 opera Lucia di Lammermoor.
