About “The language of power”
The steerswomen were seekers who collected and freely shared knowledge, while the wizards possessed powerful but guarded magical abilities. The two groups had been in conflict for centuries. In this 2004 novel by Rosemary Kirstein, the steerswoman Rowan discovers that the master wizard Slado is using dangerous spells that are harming the Outskirts and altering the world. Determined to stop him, Rowan and her friend Bel, an Outskirter, travel to the city of Donner. There, they uncover secrets that challenge everything they thought they knew, leading Rowan to question whether she has been searching for answers in the wrong way.
