A survival course is led by Keiko O'Brien, taking students including Jake Sisko and Nog through a newly discovered wormhole to Cetus Beta. The trip is meant to be safe and educational, but a Cardassian raider attacks their runabout, leaving the students stranded on a dangerous planet. The planet is home to hostile, moving plants that threaten the group. With the runabout damaged and their equipment missing, the students must find a way to survive while evading a Cardassian search party. As they face the planet's dangers, they encounter a new enemy that jeopardizes their chance to escape. The story follows their struggle to survive and return home.
