After several Federation and Klingon ships disappear while traveling a newly opened trade route, the U.S.S. Enterprise is sent to investigate. Captain Picard and his crew discover a space graveyard filled with ships of all sizes, all lifeless and abandoned. At the center of the graveyard is a massive and powerful alien artifact built by an ancient race. As the crew tries to uncover the artifact's secrets, they accidentally activate its immense power, which begins to threaten the lives of everyone on board the Enterprise.
