When two powerful rival Tizarin families are to be joined through marriage, the USS Enterprise hosts the wedding. Captain Picard is initially pleased but is soon troubled by the arrival of Lwaxana Troi, the Federation delegate and mother of the ship’s counselor, Deanna Troi. Despite her romantic interest in Picard, the event seems to proceed smoothly until Q appears. Q, a powerful being, arrives to examine and challenge the human concept of love. His presence disrupts the celebration, leading to tension between the Tizarin families and a determined Lwaxana Troi, who seeks to teach Q a lesson in love.
