About “Tombland”
In 1549, during a time of political turmoil in England, lawyer Matthew Shardlake faces a difficult choice. The country is in chaos under the rule of young King Edward VI and his uncle, Lord Hertford. Radical Protestants are pushing out the old religion, and economic problems have led to rebellion. Shardlake, who works for Princess Elizabeth, is drawn to her summer estate after a murder occurs there. A second murder follows, and his companion Nicholas is imprisoned. Shardlake must decide whether to remain loyal to his lady or to the kingdom as tensions rise.
