A 2023 novel by Brandon Sanderson, written as a personal gift for his wife, was later expanded with the support of readers into a major Kickstarter campaign. The story follows Tress, who lives a simple life on an island in an emerald-green ocean. She collects cups from sailors and listens to stories from her friend Charlie. When Charlie's father takes him on a voyage to find a bride and disaster occurs, Tress stows away on a ship to find the Sorceress of the deadly Midnight Sea. She faces a dangerous journey through spore oceans filled with pirates, where a single drop of water can be deadly. The novel is a standalone story set in Sanderson's Cosmere universe, different from his previous works.
