"Return to Nevèrÿon" is a series of eleven sword and sorcery stories set in an empire beyond history, blending adventure, intrigue, and desire. The stories are set in a location that might be Africa or Asia and feature different protagonists, though they all contribute to the overarching narrative of Gorgik the Liberator. Gorgik, taken as a slave, gains freedom, leads a revolt, and becomes a minister who abolishes slavery. However, he is sexually aroused by the iron collars of servitude, raising questions about the nature of his mission. The series was originally published in four volumes between 1979 and 1987.
