The Reaper is a legend, more myth than man, known as the savior of worlds and leader of the Rising. But the Reaper is also Darrow, a man born of the red soil of Mars, who is also a husband, father, and friend. After a devastating defeat on Mercury, Darrow is stranded far from home, longing to return to his wife, Virginia, and defend Mars from Lysander, a ruthless enemy seeking to destroy the Rising and restore Gold's dominance. Lysander aims to crush the rebellion and reclaim power. The worlds once relied on the Reaper, but now they need Darrow, and Darrow needs those he loves—Virginia, Cassius, and Sevro—to protect the Republic.
