About “Ramona and Her Father”

Ramona feels alone in her family because she is the only one who seems happy. Her father lost his job and has become worried and distant. Her mother and older sister, Beezus, are busy and irritable. Even the family cat, Picky-picky, is grumpy after being given cheaper food and eating the Halloween jack-o'-lantern. Ramona tries to improve the situation with Beezus's help by trying to stop her father from smoking, but he does not seem to notice. She also tries to act cute, like characters in TV commercials, hoping to make her father happy again. She dreams of making a million dollars, like the boy who sang the Whopperburger jingle, so her father will be fun again.
