About “The Physician”

A 1988 novel by Noah Gordon describing the passion of an eleventh-century man to overcome disease and death, ease the suffering of others, and practice the almost mystical gift of healing granted to him. This passion carries him from the brutality and ignorance of England of his time to the sensual turbulence and splendor of distant Persia, where he meets the legendary master Avicenna, who is experimenting with the first tools of modern medicine.
