The Reverend Jesse Custer at first glance looks like just another small-town minister losing his flock and his faith, but he comes face-to-face with proof that God exists. Merging with a bizarre spiritual force called Genesis, he gains the power of "the Word," the ability to make people do whatever he says, and begins a violent, riotous journey across the country in search of answers from the elusive deity.
