About “A man could stand up”
Surrounded by the jubilation of Armistice Day, Valentine Wannop receives a telephone call with alarming news about her friend Christopher Tietjens. While she tries to listen through the noise of firecrackers, Christopher is still haunted by the trauma of war. Valentine, a pacifist, is worried about his mental state and decides to find him again. She faces uncertainty about what their meeting will bring.
