About “Man as witch”
One in four accused witches in Central Europe was male, according to this study, which examines the witch trials that led to the prosecution and execution of male witches. The book explores this lesser-known aspect of early modern history, offering statistics on the number of men involved in witch hunts. It also highlights regional differences in how witch hunts were carried out across Central Europe. Through a gender analysis of theological and demonological texts from the time, the author shows that the definition of a witch was not limited to women. To better understand the social background and experiences of male witches, the book analyzes specific conflict situations that led to their trials, using original records to describe these cases in detail.
