About “Shinshūi Wakashū”
Shinshūi Wakashū, also known as Shinshūishū, is the 19th imperial anthology of Japanese waka poetry. It was commissioned in 1363 by Emperor Go-Kōgon at the request of the Ashikaga Shōgun Ashikaga Yoshiakira and completed in 1364. The anthology was initially compiled by Nijō Tameaki, a member of the Nijō house, who died before finishing the work.
