The second book in the series begins where Night Watch left off, in modern-day Moscow, where a 1,000-year-old treaty between Light and Dark is maintained through vigilance by the Others. When a potent artifact is stolen from the Inquisitors, the consequences are dire, and the story introduces the Dark Ones' perspective through a young witch who leeches fear from children's nightmares as a summer camp counselor, until she falls in love with a Light One and threatens the balance.
