About “New Writings in SF 1”
New Writings in SF 1 is an anthology of science fiction short stories edited by John Carnell. It is the first volume in a series of thirty, with Carnell editing the first twenty-one. The book was first published in 1964 by Dennis Dobson in hardcover, and later that year as a paperback by Corgi. An American paperback edition, with a slightly different title, was released by Bantam Books in 1966. Some stories from this volume, along with selections from volumes 2 to 4, were later compiled in The Best from New Writings in SF, published by Dobson in 1971 and Corgi in 1972.
