A 2015 novel by Gary Russell follows an archaeologist who finds himself in an unexpected situation. During Christmas 2015 in Sydney, a time portal opens, and a massive glowing pyramid appears beside the Harbour Bridge, blocking Port Jackson. Cyrrus "the mobster" Globb, Professor Horace Jaanson, and an alien assassin named Kik arrive to claim the pyramid. A group of con artists also appears, led by Doc, who aims to prevent the universe from being destroyed. The gang includes Legs, Dog Boy, Shortie, and Da Trowel. When someone accidentally reawakens The Ancients of the Universe, the situation becomes more complicated.
