About “File for Record”

Haymaker's is the oldest and best department store in Dalton. Leonidas Witherall is knocked unconscious while retrieving his umbrella at the Lost and Found. He wakes in a wagon filled with French bread and heads home for a bath. Later, he is called out to help during a blackout. When he returns, he finds the body of Mr. Haymaker in his study, with the hilt of a samurai sword sticking out of his chest. Witherall becomes both the detective and the main suspect as he begins one of his most challenging and amusing adventures. The story is written by Phoebe Atwood Taylor.
