The Power of Six by Pittacus Lore is the second book in a science fiction series that follows nine Loric children and their guardians, called Cepans, who have been sent to Earth to escape the Mogadorians. The Mogadorians are a race in need of new resources and have attacked Lorien, the Loric home planet. Each child has special powers called Legacies. Seven, also known as Marina, lives in a convent in Spain with her Cepan, Adelina. She has discovered she can move objects with her mind, breathe underwater, and heal with her touch. Meanwhile, John, known as Number Four, and his Chimaera, Bernie Kosar, travel in America with his friend Sam Goode. They have faced Mogadorians before but lost their Cepans. They go to West Virginia to recover important items called Inheritances. Six senses a call for help in Spain and joins the fight there. The story follows the characters as they battle the Mogadorians, face losses, and try to regroup to defeat them.
