About “Dead Man's Walk”
Dead Man's Walk is a novel by Larry McMurtry that tells the story of Gus McCrae and Woodrow Call in their early days as Texas Rangers. The book takes place when they are not yet twenty and follows their experiences as they begin their journey on the wild frontier. They enlist under Caleb Cobb, a land pirate who wants to take Santa Fe from the Mexicans. The story is set in the time when Texas was still an independent republic. The novel explores the untamed frontier and the conflicts between the Indians, Texans, and Mexicans. It is both an adventure story and a literary work. The book was published in 1995.
